Bella Coola Hill

Murray Boal
I'm a gonna tell you a story
About a road you’re gonna drive down.
Through the coast range mountains
Pacific Ocean bound
From the west Chilcotin
It’s a long way down the Bella Coola Hill.

Long before the sailing ships
And the white folks settled here.
There was a trail up into the jack pine
They been walking for a thousand year.
Gonna keep on walking
It’s a long way down the Bella Coola Hill
It’s a long way down

The road is a’steep and narrow
    Cuts down a mountain side
On the road to Bella Coola
Are you ready for a wild ride.
    It’s a long way down

Back in the 1950’s
There wasn’t a road down the hill.
And the people in the valley say
We want to get one built.
But the government say, there aint no way
Cause it’s a long way down the Bella Coola Hill
It’s a long way down

The people got together
And they bought a D-6 Cat.
And they built that road on there own
You never seen nothing like that
Such a will and determination
It’s a long ways down the Bella Coola Hill
It’s a long way down

Let It Go

Robert M. Campbell
LET IT GO THROW IT AWAY
IF IT DON’T COME BACK IT WASN’T MEANT TO STAY
YOU CAN’T HELP IT ANYMORE IT’S TIME TO MOVE ON
LET IT GO WHEN IT’S GONE IT’S GONE

LET IT GO GIVE IT A TOSS
IF IT DON’T BOUNCE BACK IT’S NO BIG LOSS
IT’S TAKIN’ ITS TOLL YOU’VE DONE ALL YOU CAN
FORGIVE AND FORGET MAKE A NEW PLAN

CHORUS: LET IT GO, LET IT GO, AY-EE-AY, LET IT GO

LET IT GO PUT IT DOWN
IF IT DON’T LOOK BACK YOU DON’T NEED IT AROUND
IT’S WASTING YOUR TIME IT’S ALL IN YOUR HEAD
LET IT GO IT’S HANGIN’ BY A THREAD

LET IT GO SET IT FREE
IF IT DON’T CRAWL BACK IT WASN’T MEANT TO BE
OPEN YOUR EYES TAKE A REAL GOOD LOOK
IT’S ROBBIN’ YOU BLIND IT’S NOTHING BUT A CROOK

CHORUS:

BREAK:

LET IT GO ASK IT WHY
IF IT DON'T RESPOND AT LEAST YOU TRIED
PHILOSOPHY CAN'T TELL YOU HOW TO REALLY FEEL INSIDE
LET IT GO THAT PART OF YOU HAS DIED

CHORUS: X2

TAG: LET IT GO, JUST LET IT GO
LET IT GO, COME ON LET IT GO

I FEEL BETTER ALREADY

Good Neighbours

Murray Boal
My neighbour comes for coffee,
Most every couple of days.
We might discuss the weather.
What does the forecast say.
Talk about the river,
And all its ups and downs
Maybe find out what’s happening,
In our little town.

My neighbours got a fishin’ hole
On down through the trees.
He showed me how to catch a fish,
Before the river freezes.
I helped him build a shelter there,
Out of post and beam.
Using the logs we salvaged,
A little bit up stream.

 Good neighbours, good neighbours
You know it can’t be bet, * no nothing can compete
 Good neighbours, good neighbours
When you got a good neighbour living on your street

My neighbour digs potatoes,
In our garden in the fall.
We share our big old farm truck,
When they got vegetables to haul.
I might plow his driveway,
When the winter snow falls down.
Maybe catch a ride next Thursday,
When my neighbours drive to town.

CH    * the nicest folks you’ll ever meet

And when there’s times of trouble, It’s a dark and lonely road
All you see is hard times, no matter where you go.
I know that it sounds simple, and you’ve heard it all before
The days are gettin’ brighter when good neighbours live next door

CH   * the nicest folks you'll ever meet

A Little Crazy

Robert M. Campbell

YOU’RE A LITTLE CRAZY
I’M A LITTLE CRAZY TOO
LET’S LIVE TOGETHER
AND SEE WHAT TWO CRAZY PEOPLE CAN DO

I LOVE YOU BABE, AND YOU LOVE ME
IT’S WHAT WE’VE DECIDED TO DO
BUT I’M A LITTLE CRAZY
AND YOU’RE A LITTLE CRAZY TOO

WE’RE NOT SPRING CHICKENS ANYMORE
WE TRY NOT TO WORK TOO HARD
BUT THERE’S ALWAYS A MILLION THINGS TO DO
IN THE HOUSE AND IN THE YARD

WE’RE GRATEFUL FOR OUR DINNER
AND WE KISS EVERY NIGHT
AND WE’VE LEARNED TO LEAVE EACH OTHER ALONE
WHEN WE KNOW THE TIME IS RIGHT

BREAK:

YOU’RE A LITTLE CRAZY
I’M A LITTLE CRAZY TOO
LET’S TAKE OUR CLOTHES OFF
AND SEE WHAT TWO CRAZY PEOPLE CAN DO

I LOVE YOU BABE, AND THIS IS FOREVER
IT’S WHAT WE’VE DECIDED TO DO
BUT I’M STILL A LITTLE CRAZY
YOU’RE STILL A LITTLE CRAZY TOO

YA, I’M STILL A LITTLE CRAZY
AND YOU’RE STILL A LITTLE CRAZY . . .TOO

Another Year

Murray Boal
Another year,
Another season coming round
The ice is slowly melting,
The sun is warming up the ground
Another year,
There’s a garden being grown,
It’s time for cultivatin’
Before the seeds are sown
You’re still here, another year
Another year,
Now the days are gettin’ long
One more chance to make right
All the things that you done wrong
Another year,
To be working with your hands
Thirty years are you still
Feeling closer to the land
You’re still here, another year

When you wake up in the morning
     To work another day
Are the reasons that you came here
Still the reason that you stay
     Another year

Feel the summer sun.
Swimmin’ in the river
When your day’s work is done.
Another year
Then it’s harvest time again
The nights are getting’ cooler
You know the weathers gonna change
You’re still here, another year

Another year
Now that season’s almost through
The leaves have started turnin’
You got so many things to do
Another year
When the winter wind blows colder
Does it chill you to the bone
Are you feeling a little bit older
You’re still here, another year

Names on the Stone

Murray Boal
Two brothers went west at the turn of the century.
Southern Saskatchewan bound.
Government land and they took a preemption
And broke a few acres of ground.

It was after two years that there family followed
To start a new life on the land.
Around them the towns grew up like the wheat fields,
The grain elevator still stands.

I drove to the prairies to an old farming town
Where my family once made there home.
And I stood in the twilight on the outskirts of town,
Reading the names on the stone.

Another ten years go by, there’s dark clouds in the sky.
At the start of the war to end wars.
The brothers signed up, the Canadian forces,
And sailed to a far distant shore

The letters arrived, said both brothers had died
In a field so far from home.
For a town this small, so many young men did fall,
Now there names are carved in the stone.

Ch ‘on the main street of town’

Hard times for the family after the war,
When the dust storms blew over the plains.
Now the years have rolled on and my family’s all gone,
But there names on the stone still remain.

Let's Go for a Drive

Robert M. Campbell
JUMP IN YOU CAR LET’S GO FOR A DRIVE
AND BE PART OF THIS GREAT BIG BEEHIVE
TIGHTEN YOUR BELT, THE HAND'S BEEN DEALT
AND LET’S GO FOR A DRIVE

WE ALL NEED THAT CAR TO GET TO WORK
FOR SOME IT’S A LICENCE TO DRIVE LIKE A JERK
FASTER THAN FAST, LET’S WASTE SOME GAS
AND LET’S GO FOR A DRIVE

WE’RE GONNA HAVE US A VITAL LINK
FROM HERE TO WINGDAM, YOUR BLINKER WON’T BLINK
ANOTHER PHASE, THERE'S OTHER WAYS
BUT LET’S GO FOR A DRIVE

BRIDGE: YOU COULD TAKE A TRAIN OR A BUS
I THINK I’LL JUST TAKE MY CAR ‘CAUSE IT’S LESS FUSS
OR YOU COULD STAY AT HOME AND CLEAN UP YOUR YARD
DON’T THINK I’LL SPEND ANY MONEY TODAY,
               MAN THAT’S GONNA BE HARD

BREAK:

SOME DAYS IT FEELS LIKE, THIS WHOLE WORLD’S INSANE
EVERYBODY’S DRIVIN’ IN THE FAST LANE
I’LL TAKE MY TIME, THE ROAD’S ALL MINE
AND LET’S GO FOR A DRIVE, YA-HEE-WHO
I’LL TAKE MY TIME LET’S GO FOR A DRIVE

Everybody Wants My Buck

ROBERT M. CAMPBELL
EVERYBODY WANTS MY BUCK X4

IT COMES IN THE MAIL
THEY CALL ON THE PHONE
WHEN THE TV’S ON
THEY WON’T LEAVE ME ALONE

MY KIDS NEED THIS
MY KIDS WANT THAT
CELL PHONES AND IPOD’S
GONNA LEAVE ME FLAT

EVERYBODY WANTS MY BUCK X4

THEY DON’T MAKE THINGS
THAT LAST ANYMORE
A COUPLE OF YEARS
IT’S OUT THE DOOR

ALL MY HARD EARNED MONEY
ALL MY HARD EARNED PAY
THERE’S A SUCKER BORN A MINUTE
I JUST GIVE IT ALL AWAY

EVERYBODY WANTS MY BUCK X4

BREAK:

EVERYBODY WANTS MY BUCK X4

TROUBLE IN THE WEST
TROUBLE IN THE EAST
JUST PAY THE MAN
THIS RAGING BEAST

GOTTA DRIVE TO WORK
GOTTA DRIVE TO THE STORE
IT’S DRIVIN’ ME NUTS
ALL THIS MORE AND MORE AND MORE AND MORE AND MORE AND

EVERYBODY WANTS MY BUCK X8 . . . AIN’T IT THE TRUTH

Horsefly Road

Murray Boal
Broke down on the highway
In the middle of the night.
Had to walk to the fifty
In the cold moon light.
And with the wind chill
It was 25 below.
By the time we reached the Horsefly Road

Hitchhiked from the junction,
But we didn’t have much luck.
Walkin’ around in circles
Just a’trying to keep warmed up.
And when a truck pulled over
Lord, we were near half froze.
But now we’re driving up the Horsefly Road

    Logging trucks and cowboys
    Working in the mills.
    Ranchers drivin’ tractors
    And hippies in the hills.
Things I remember, not so long ago
When I was living on the Horsefly Road

Working at the stockyards
When the cattle sales were on.
Feeding on the night shift
‘Till all of the hay was gone.
And when we left the Laketown
How were we to know
That we’d be standing on the Horsefly Road

Drove out to Horsefly
After I fixed my truck.
The road was a little slippery
And I got the darn thing stuck
Flagged down a farmer
And he gave us a tow
Back on to the Horsefly Road

Peaches and Cream

ROBERT M. CAMPBELL
WE GOT US SOME MONEY LET’S MAKE US SOME MORE
INVEST IN THE FUTURE THAT’S WHAT WE’RE HERE FOR
WE’LL BUY UP SOME LAND AND SIGN WITH NO SHAME
THE BANKER’S ALWAYS YOUR FRIEND IN THE SPECULATION GAME

WE’LL CUT DOWN SOME TREES AND LEVEL ‘ER FLAT
TAKE LESS THAN A DAY WITH A NEW D9 CAT
DIG US SOME HOLES LAY IN WIRES AND PIPES
OUT OF SITE OUT OF MIND IN THEIR EYES IT’S ALRIGHT

CHORUS: PEACHES AND CREAM ARE THE COLOURS THEY CHOSE
TO SIDE UP THOSE HOUSES THAT SIT THERE IN ROWS
                BLACK-TOP, CONCRETE, NEON AND STEEL
I DON’T THINK THEY ASKED HOW THE NEIGHBOURS WOULD FEEL
I KNOW THEY DON’T CARE HOW THE NEIGHBOURS FEEL

THEY LAID DOWN THE SOD AND MADE IT ALL GREEN
HEAVEN FORBID ANY DIRT TO BE SEEN
THEY GAVE IT A NAME AND IT’S ALL UP FOR SALE
BY SPRING THE FOLKS WILL BE GETTING THEIR MAIL

THEY GOT SOME MORE MONEY AND A PIECE ACROSS TOWN
LOOKS GOOD FOR THE NEXT ONE LET’S SPREAD ‘EM AROUND
THE FUTURE IS HERE AND IT’S NOT ALWAYS KIND
BUT I GOT MY OLD HOUSE AND IN IT I’VE GOT PEACE OF MIND

CHORUS:

TAG: ‘CAUSE I’M A NEIGHBOUR AND I CARE
AND I KNOW HOW I FEEL

Watch TV

Murray Boal
It’s early in the evening,
I got the whole night left to kill.
I could of gone out with one of my buddies,
I just don’t think that I will.

I’m gonna close up all the curtains,
Turn the lights way down low.
Takin’ it easy in my old rocking chair,
There aint no place I wanna go

    Watch TV, watch TV
    You know what I mean.
I’m gonna watch away my troubles.
I wanna live in a Hollywood dream

I don’t even know what’s playing
My TV Guide is two weeks old.
I guess I’ll click around the channels.
I might even find my favorite show.
